340-Ton LACMA Rock Inspires Big Proposal

The massive boulder provided the perfect backdrop for Ramone Vasquez to pop the question

The massive boulder slowly making its way to LACMA has attracted hundreds of gawkers, but the rock reached a new milestone Thursday as it waited patiently in Ontario, where love was in the air.

Ramone Vasquez struggled to find the words to make the 340-ton rock a symbol of the love he shares with long-time girlfriend Maria.

"I just wanted to bring you here to see the rock,” he told her. "And can you imagine that rock on your finger?"

After 30 seconds of small talk and a little fidgeting, Ramone popped the question.

"I just wanted to ask you if you would marry me?" he said. "Maybe that rock won’t fit on your finger, but maybe this one will."

Ramone knelt down before a seemingly stunned Maria, who said yes.

The couple has six boys from previous relationships, and their sons had nothing but praise for their newly-engaged parents.

"I’m glad that we’re finally a family now, I love you," Ramon Vasquez Jr. said before hugging his mother.

The rock – which is on its way to LACMA for the "Levitated Mass" exhibit – was the perfect backdrop for the proposal, said Ramone, who equated the rock’s strength to that of his love for Maria.
