Body Discovered After Fire at Downtown LA Business

The body was found on a second trip by firefighters to the burned business

A body was discovered Saturday morning when firefighters returned to a burned downtown Los Angeles building to put out flames that rekindled, authorities said.

The body was found about 7 a.m. when flames began to flare up at the business at 719 E. 9th Place (map), according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Police said the unidentified body showed no signs of foul play and did not have anything to do with the fires.

The fire originally broke out about 2 a.m. Friday at American Fabric Co., a one-story, wholesale women's garments business, authorities said.

It took 88 firefighters 17 minutes to knock down the flames. No injuries were reported at that time.

The fire caused about $400,000 in damage, authorities said.

Arson and Los Angeles Police Department investigators where trying to determine the cause of death and how the fire broke out.
