Body Found in Burning Rosemead Condo

A body was found Thursday afternoon by firefighters who responded to a burning condominium in Rosemead where bags of marijuana were found inside.

Crews responded about 4:55 p.m. to the fire at a two-story condominium building in the 8300 block of Rush Street, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The first arriving crews saw smoke coming from a second-floor window and a dead person was found inside, along with 20 pounds of marijuana stuffed in bags.

Neighbor Loretta Ferem said she would walk by the condo often, but never imagined where it came from.

"I would smell some marijuana," she said, "like where is it coming from, what's going on?"

The decedent's age and gender were not immediately available.

The fire was knocked down at 5:08 p.m.

The sheriff's department was called in to investigate.

Editor’s Note: Firefighters initially described the condominium as a grow house. A source later told NBC4 that marijuana was not being grown in the residence; there was just a large amount of pot inside.
