Body Found in Suitcase in Glendale

Police were searching Monday for the person or people who dumped a suitcase containing a man's body into a flood channel in Glendale overnight, officials said.

A public works employee found the body at 9 a.m. at Glorietta Avenue and North Verdugo Road, said Tom Lorenz, a spokesman at the Glendale Police Department.

The worker had been clearing debris ahead of a storm that is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, police said.

Police didn’t know how the man had died and they didn’t know his age, but it appeared to be a recent death. There were no visible gunshot wounds or stab wounds, Lorenz said.

They believe the man was targeted, likely killed somewhere else and then dumped.

Residents were shocked. It was Glendale's first homicide of the year. The city has only had two homicides in the past 4 and a half years.

"We've never seen anything like this," Bob Einem said.

His wife, Zoila, added: "It's a surprise because the neighborhood is very quiet."
