The owner of a Big Bear cabin burned down in the manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer wanted in a killing spree has filed a $420,000 claim with the county of San Bernardino.
Candace Martin of Palmdale claims San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies burned her cabin in February when they deployed “a large number of pyrotechnic tear gas canisters” during a shootout with Christopher Dorner that left one deputy dead and wounded a second.

Dorner was the rogue ex-LAPD officer who went on a revenge-fueled killing spree before shooting himself in the cabin on Feb. 12, officials said.
Over 10 days, Dorner killed four people -- including two law enforcement officers -- and wounded three police officers.
County officials were seeking further information about the case with the hope the parties could settle the claim before it becomes a lawsuit, said San Bernardino County spokesman David Wert.
Martin did not return a call seeking comment on Friday, but in an interview with NBC4 two days after the incident, she said she learned about her 90-year-old cabin burning while watching news coverage of it on TV.

"That was heart wrenching to see,” she said. “I just started crying.”
