Cat Owes Remaining Lives to Firefighters

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. -- Firefighters resuscitated a cat and saved two other animals Wednesday night from a mobile home fire.

Two women also escaped the fire at Shorecliffs Mobile Homes.

Firefighters entered the home to find Shey, a cat that had stopped breathing. Firefighters used special equipments to resuscitate Shey.

"When he was handed to me, he was going through his lives pretty quickly," said firefighter Pete Lawrence.

Firefighters worked on the cat for about 30 minutes before he began to breathe and meow.

Cat owner Charlotte Sestito said she watched the ordeal and did not know whether the cat would survive. Another cat and a dog also escaped.

The Red Cross is providing assistance for the two women who lived at the residence.
