Code Enforcement Officer Heeds the Call: ‘My Wife Is in Labor!'

The baby and his mother were healthy and happy at a nearby hospital.

On her way into work last week, Angie Solis heard a man yell, "My wife is in labor! She's about to have a baby!"

There she was last Wednesday helping deliver a baby in a van parked outside of the Western Regional Code Enforcement Office in Riverside.

The veteran code enforcement officer with 18 years under her belt soothed the mother while holding the baby's head as the father contacted the Riverside County Fire Department for help.

"When I first saw her in labor, I was freaking out and asked my coworkers 'What do we do?'" Solis said. "After the baby was born, I was overwhelmed with joy for the family. I was blessed to be a part of the baby's debut."

Born to proud parents, Amanda and Oswaldo Tadeo, baby Damian weighed in at 8 pounds, 12 ounces and measured 19 inches long at birth.

Amanda was nervous that they weren't going to make it.

"Thank goodness Angie was there to catch him," said Amanda Tadeo. "I don't think I could have done it myself."
