Toluca Lake Elementary had no place in the budget for transforming the dull, white walls into something inspiring for children — until Comcast Cares Day came along, the largest single-day corporate volunteer effort in the nation.
"The walls are lovely, plain and white," Carol Reo Boveau, principal, said.
A little pop of color on the walls has been Boveau's dream. But she said districtwide budget cuts have prevented her from painting the school.
But one day, she got a call from Comcast NBCUniversal. And the beauty showed up Saturday.
"At the end of the day, it's going to be beautiful," NBC4 Reporter Robert Kovacik said.
Paint and brushes were put to work by NBC4 reporters, anchors, photographers, digital producers, behind-the-scenes folks and more.
"It expands our relationship with the community," explained NBC4 Meteorologist Fritz Coleman.

More than 100,000 volunteers worked on 800 different projects on Comcast Cares Day.
From the blacktop to the hallways to the walls and flower pots, color is now everywhere.
"It's a lesson I learned as an adult. It's one I want to pass along to my kids," NBC4 Anchor Michael Brownlee said.
NBCUniversal wants to pass it to the world.
"Wouldn't it be great if more people stepped up and spent a few hours at a local library or school?" Fred Mahs of NBCUniversal and Comcast said.
When the bell rings Monday, the students are "going to be screaming!"
