Cops Seek Gunman in Slaying of Teen

The shooting broke out as party-goers were leaving the house, officials say.

A 17-year-old boy was gunned down at a Lancaster party early Saturday and the shooter is still at large, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Kevin Tatum, of Compton, was pronounced dead at the scene after someone shot him when a fight broke out as party-goers were leaving, Sheriff’s Deputy Don Walker said. It happened at 1 a.m.

More than 100 youths attended the house party in the 700 block of East Avenue K in Lancaster, City News Service reports. Authorities told NBC4 they could not confirm the number of people at the party.

Walker said detectives believe the shooting may be gang-related. It was not immediately known if the victim was involved in the fight.

No arrests had been made as of Saturday evening. Homicide detectives asked for the public’s help in finding the shooter.

Authorities asked anyone with information to call the LA County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
