The grueling fifth stage of the Amgen Tour of California bike race reached Mount Baldy Thursday.
American Andrew Talansky won the stage, but overall leader Rafal Majka kept the yellow jersey.
Earlier, the 78-mile stage began in Ontario and wound through the streets of Upland, Azusa and Glendora. The tour ends Saturday in Pasadena.
That's just one of many big events in Pasadena this weekend, that will bring gridlock to the area.
Big crowds are expected at the Rose Bowl, NASA's JPL, and the playhouse district.
"I'll be taking the 2 and avoiding the 210 and some of the traffic," said Siobhan Linton. "I know better."
Traffic warning signs are already in place near the Rose Bowl, the site of one of eight events happening in this city this weekend.
U2 will bring 120,000 people to two sold-out concerts to Pasadena, while the annual open house at JPL will bring another 36,000.
Then there's the Amgen bike race, which will not only bring cyclists and fans, but will also shut down city streets.
"We have a two-day thing called Litfest celebrating the written word in playhouse district," said William Boyer, a spokesman for the city of Pasadena.
Boyer said it will be all hands on deck for the police department and for traffic control.
"People love to come here," he said. "We do special events all the time. It does seem a little unusual we have this convergence of all of these events."
Barbara Pritchett, a resident, said she will not be in traffic. She plans to walk to some of the events, while others are taking public transportation.
Monica Weld, is planning on taking public transportation and then walking.
Ongoing construction on the 210 Freeway won't help, but Caltrans has agreed to reopen the Berkshire Place ramps for this weekend only.
