A construction worker died Tuesday when the edges of a trench gave way, trapping him up to his neck.
Firefighters were sent to 3931 N. Oeste Ave. above Sherman Oaks at 2:51 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the city fire department.
He said a co-worker reported the man was in an 8-foot-deep, 2-foot-wide trench when the collapse occurred. He was declared dead at 3:10 p.m.
Rescue workers sent to save the man instead concentrated on pulling his body out of the trench.
