Stanton, Calif. -- A man walked into a food market at a Stanton gas station Wednesday and threatened a clerk with a machete before getting away with about $250 in cash, authorities said.
The suspect entered the GNM Food Mart, adjacent to a 76 gas station at 7501 Katella Ave., about 2:15 a.m. and made some threats against the clerk before putting the machete to his throat, said Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
Amormino estimated the machete to be 12 to 18 inches long.
The man took an estimated $250 from the register and made some additional threats while leaving, but no one was hurt, Amormino said.
The man was described as 20-21 years old, 6-foot-1 and about 200 pounds. His head was obscured by a black hooded sweatshirt, Amormino said.
The robber was caught on videotape, but while his face is obscured by the hood, his voice can be clearly heard, Amormino said.
The suspect used terms like "shank," a prison term for knife, which may indicate he was recently in custody, Amormino said.
