A driver in North Hollywood suffered a seizure Tuesday morning, prompting his vehicle to swerve into oncoming traffic, severely injuring at least one person, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Early reports indicated six vehicles were involved in the crash, but police later clarified only five vehicles were involved.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Whitsett Avenue about 7:20 a.m., LAPD Sgt. Kurt Smith said.
A Toyota pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Victory Boulevard when the driver suffered a seizure. His truck veered into the westbound lanes and collided with multiple vehicles.
One person suffered a broken leg, and another complained of pain, according to LAPD Valley Traffic.
None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, said Smith, adding that "modern engineering" was to thank for possibly saving lives.
"If you look at some of these cars, they're pretty beat up, and people are walking away from them. The guy with the most-severe injury didn't have airbags," Smith said.

"Newer cars do actually save lives, but driving well does, too," he said.
No arrests were made in the case.
