Damaged California Roads Face Lengthy Repairs

Several highways in Southern California's San Jacinto and San Bernardino mountains face lengthy closures for repair of extensive damage from last week's powerful storm.

Caltrans says that State Route 243 from Interstate 10 to Idyllwild will be closed for at least two months and a section of State Route 74 will be closed for at least one month. Those roads in the San Jacinto Mountains are being repaired under an $8 million emergency contract.

In the San Bernardino range, a stretch of State Route 18 will be closed for at least two weeks for $2.5 million in emergency work

In the Coachella Valley, Caltrans says $3.5 million worth of repairs on State Route 111 will last at least a month.
