Decomposing Bodies of Woman, Man Found in Hacienda Heights Home

A vehicle that was missing from a Hacienda Heights home where a man and woman were discovered dead was found Thursday in El Monte, the sheriff's department announced.

The Toyota Camry was found about noon in the 12100 block of Magnolia Street and towed and stored for processing by the sheriff's crime lab, according to Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The vehicle was missing from a home in the 16600 block of Carriage Place, where the decomposing bodies of a man and an 84-year-old woman were found late Wednesday afternoon.

"The bodies are in pretty bad shape because they've been there a while, but you can tell it was a homicide," sheriff's Lt. John Corina told reporters at the scene. "These two people were killed at the hands of somebody else and then they tried to clean it up, clean the scene up a little bit."

The female victim appeared to be the owner of the house, Rouzan said.

She had not been seen for a week and deputies went to the address to conduct a welfare check.

The bodies were found in separate parts of the residence, according to the sheriff's department.

The woman lived at the residence with her adult son, but he has been in custody for an elder abuse conviction "for a few months," Corina said.

The woman may have suffered from some degree of dementia and would let people into the home when they came to visit her son, he said. Some of those people could have information about what happened to the man and woman, the lieutenant said.

Neighbors said they were stunned by the killings.

"It's crazy because it's a quiet neighborhood and for someone to be found, it's scary," said neighbor Ashley Hernandez.
