Dinner is Served, 10,000 Expected

For more than 20 years, the Jackson Limousine Service has been giving needy families turkeys and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving holiday celebration.

This year is no exception.  At 8 a.m., the Jackson Limousine Service will hold its 22nd annual turkey dinner giveaway at 3669 W. Slauson Ave. More than 10,000 people are expected to show up.

At 7 p.m., Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Cardinal Roger Mahony, the Roman Catholic archbishop of Los Angeles, will host the 11th annual Thanksgiving dinner for 600 Para Los Ninos children and their families at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Also in downtown Los Angeles, officials from Yellow Cab, City Cab and United Checker Cab will announce their plans to donate 200 turkeys to various food banks and charity organizations. City Councilmen Dennis Zine and Bernard Parks are expected to be on hand for that announcement.

Parks' office, meanwhile, will distribute turkeys to 8th District residents from the councilman's office at 8475 S. Vermont Ave.

More than 300 men and women serving in the armed forces will be treated to an early Thanksgiving dinner at Los Angeles International Airport, sponsored by the Bob Hope Hollywood USO at LAX. Among those expected to attend are Ozzy Osbourne, boxer Carlos Palomino, Chivas USA goalkeeper Lance Parker and former Rams quarterback Vince Ferragamo.

Officials from TarpsPlus.com, a division of Abadak Outdoors, plan to distribute more than 1,000 tarps today to the homeless people at the Los Angeles Mission, providing them portable shelter.
