Dodgers Bring Back Reliever Joe Blanton

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers announced the signing of right-handed reliever Joe Blanton to a one-year contract on Tuesday.

Blanton's deal is reportedly worth $4 million dollars and brings about a return to Los Angeles where Blanton started 10 games in 2012 after he was acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies in the second half of the season.

Blanton went 2-4 with a 4.99 ERA in his short stint with the Dodgers, but has been relegated to relief work over the past three seasons. The 35-year-old went 7-2 with a 2.84 ERA in 36 appearances for the Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates last year.

Blanton was originally selected by the Oakland Athletics in the first round (24th overall) of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Kentucky.
