Dog Sitter Arrested After Allegedly Burglarizing Palos Verdes Estates Home

Nephi Henderson of Hermosa Beach was arrested on Wednesday morning on two counts of residential burglary

A 36-year-old man was in custody Friday for allegedly burglarizing a Palos Verdes Estates residence whose homeowner hired him as a dog sitter.

Nephi Henderson of Hermosa Beach was arrested on Wednesday morning on two counts of residential burglary after detectives served a search warrant at his home and recovered items allegedly belonging to the victim, according to Palos Verdes Estates police.

Items believed to have been taken during a burglary in another city were also recovered, police said.

Detectives began an investigation on Saturday after the homeowner who hired Henderson through the website Care.com reported the suspect and accomplices were captured on surveillance video entering his home and removing property on two occasions while the victim was away, police said.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has charged Henderson with two counts of residential burglary, police said.

Henderson is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to sheriff's inmate records.

Detectives are working to identify the other suspects and believe Henderson may have victimized others. They have recovered several purses and items of clothing and are trying to identify the rightful owners.

They ask anyone with information about the case to contact the lead detective at (310) 378-7522, extension 4 or kshea@pvestates.org.
