9-Day DUI Sting Nets 1,068 Arrests

Law enforcement team up for an effort to crack down on drunken drivers during the holidays

Officers representing 100 Los Angeles County law enforcement agencies have arrested 1,068 motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs since a special crackdown began Dec.
14, it was announced Sunday.

The Avoid the 100 Los Angeles County DUI campaign began at 12:01 a.m. Dec. 14. and is expected to conclude at midnight on Jan. 1, 2013. The arrest numbers were tabulated from 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 14 until midnight Saturday, according to a department statement.

In 2011, during the same nine-day period, 1,385 DUI arrests were made, according to the statement.

The campaign includes sobriety checkpoints, routine traffic enforcement and special deployments throughout Los Angeles County, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
