Extra Police Guarding Against Assaults on Gay Men in Long Beach

Extra police officers are on guard in Long Beach after three separate attacks on gay men in the Broadway Corridor, a neighborhood known for being a tight knit gay and lesbian community.

In the first attack, police said a group of friends were walking along east Broadway near Falcon Avenue when the suspect, identified as Jorge Ibarrias, punched one of the friends in the face.

A witness said the suspect asked, "Are you guys gay?" The witness said the victim said, "Yeah."

That's when the suspect attacked, allegedly punching him hard in the face. Ibarrias was arrested and now faces battery and hate crime charges.

But, police said this was just one of three recent attacks in the area. The others are still under investigation.

So they are putting more officers on the streets to try and stop this from happening again.
