All Lanes Reopened After Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision Shuts Down 5 Fwy in Glendale

All lanes have been reopened after a fatal crash involving up to five vehicles shut down the 5 Freeway in the Glendale area, bringing traffic to a crawl during Friday morning's rainy commute.

A Sig Alert was issued about 6:07 a.m. for a full closure of the northbound 5 Freeway after a collision south of Western Avenue near the 134 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. All lanes were reopened around 10:30 a.m.

A man in his 30s was killed in the wreck, CHP confirmed.

During the closure, traffic on the northbound 5 Freeway was being diverted to the 134, CHP said. The westbound 134 Freeway transition to the 5 Freeway, which was also closed, reopened Friday morning.

Drivers were warned to be extra careful as scattered showers moving in across Southern California made for dangerous driving conditions.

No further information was immediately available.
