A fiery single-vehicle crash left one dead in Beverly Hills early Monday morning.

The crash was reported just after 2:30 a.m. Monday on La Cienega Boulevard at Gregory Way in Beverly Hills, police said.

Police confirmed that the Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle crashed into a center divider before bursting into flames. Beverly Hills Fire Department personnel knocked down the flames within minutes and located a body in the SUV, officials said.

Witnesses said the flames and heat were intense.

"I was hoping that everyone was ok."

What led up to the crash was under investigation. Two witnesses are speaking with police, who plan to review surveillance camera video to determine whether other vehicles were involved.
