A fire triggered by a small explosion at a narcotics lab that produces honey oil damaged a Hollywood apartment complex early Thursday morning, police said.
Crews responded to a fire at around 2:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Cahuenga Boulevard, according to the LAPD Hollywood Division. An explosion and a fire occurred inside a lab that produces honey oil or hash oil, police said.
The man running the operation called 911 after the explosion caused a small fire in a studio apartment on the second floor of the apartment complex.
The apartment complex was flooded after the fire activated the sprinkler system.
The man who was inside the apartment was taken to the hospital for severe burns to his face, chest and hands.
Los Angeles Police Department narcotics detectives and Los Angeles Fire Department arson investigators were on scene.
Law enforcement officials were preparing to serve a search warrant Thursday morning so they could collect evidence and remove any remaining toxic chemicals from the apartment.
