Fire Burns South LA Furniture Business

1 firefighter hospitalized with minor burns

About 100 firefighters needed 45 minutes to knock down a blaze Monday at a furniture business in South Los Angeles.

The building, C and L Furniture, is located at 6245 S. Manhattan Place. It was declared a knockdown at about 8:53 a.m.

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with minor burns from the intense heat.

The business owner notified the fire department after noticing the blaze on the way to work. About 70 percent of the building's contents -- mattresses and furniture -- were destroyed.

Teams of firefighters stayed at the scene for more than seven hours to assist with salvaging contents of the building.

Investigators were attempting to determine the cause of the fire.
