Firefighters contained brush fires that prompted evacuations and destroyed two cabins near Trabuco Canyon Wednesday before night-time aerial attacks that allowed crews to gain the upperhand.
Three separate fires were reported just after 6 p.m. near Holy Jim Trail, and two cabins had burned, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
The fires burned a 2-acre area, officials said. At least 100 firefighters battled the flames until reaching full containment about 9:30 p.m.
"There were three separate fires and embers were thrown into the vegetation," said Orange County Fire Department Capt. Steve Concialdi. "It's treacherous terrain and our firefighters have done an outstanding job of keeping the fire in check. Our Orange County firefighting helicopters are allowed to fly at night, and they were instrumental in keeping the fire from spreading up the hill."
Some evacuations were in order for residents near Holy Jim Canyon Road, said Orange County Fire spokesman Steve Concialdi. No injuries were reported.

Trabuco Canyon is a small unincorporated community located in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains in eastern Orange County. Fire officials said the area hasn't burned in about 10 years.
