Firefighters Battle Blaze at Vacant Building in Westlake

Fire tore through an abandoned building in the Westlake district on Thursday.

A woman suffered a lacerated hand and was treated and released at the scene of the blaze in the area of Union Avenue and Third Street, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Her affiliation with the building was unclear.

A tentative address of 306 S. Union Avenue was given for the fire, which was reported about 4:30 p.m., Humphrey said.

Eighty-five firefighters responded and knocked down the bulk of the blaze in 37 minutes, though units remained on scene dousing hot spots, Humphrey said.
