Good Samaritan Follows Alleged Hit-and-Run Driver

LOS ANGELES -- A motorist injured two pedestrians with her vehicle in the Crenshaw District early Thursday and fled, but she was taken into custody a short time later with the help of a Good Samaritan, authorities said.

The collision occurred near Coliseum Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard shortly after midnight, according to an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Division.

After striking a man and woman with her car, the woman behind the wheel drove off but was followed by a driver who had witnessed the crash, the officer said.

The motorist kept the woman from fleeing until police arrived, and she was taken into custody about 800 feet from the site of the collision, he added.

Both victims were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the officer said.

The woman was booked for felony hit and run, the officer said, adding that neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been a factor in the crash. Her name was not immediately released.
