A grower of table grapes agreed to pay a group of women denied jobs because of their gender more than $1 million to settle a discrimination lawsuit, attorney Gloria Allred announced today.
The women allege they went in a group to apply to pick grapes but were told the company did not want women, and that all women are lazy, Allred said.
According the Allred, the company hired about 300 grape pickers a year between 1998 and 2002 -- but no women.
Allred is holding a news conference at her offices today to discuss the case, along with the plaintiffs, her colleague Tomas Olmos, and United Farm Workers President Arturo Rodriguez.
