One person was wounded in a shooting in Los Angeles' Harbor Gateway neighborhood Friday morning, police said.
Gunfire and yelling was reported just before 10 a.m. in the 1500 block of 218th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A female victim suffering from a gunshot wound was found at the scene. She was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
Police said the attacker may have broken into the victim's home, struck her with a hammer and assaulted her. A bullet-resistant vest was recovered at a home.
"It's actually really surprising," a neighbor said. "I was asleep but when I woke up I was really shocked to see all the police here."
Officers at the scene said the victim was not cooperating with the investigation.
