First birthday parties and pups?

They're a truly big thing, for many people.

Either you're buying your baby barker a special made-for-dogs dessert for his own first birthday, or you've created a dog-focused theme for your human tot's first big bash, down to the cute tablecloth, plates, and napkins.

What if, though, you could go to a first birthday party and possibly meet a pooch you'll want to live with forever and always?

It feels like the perfect match-up, between tail-waggers and a major milestone, and the ideal way to mark a first birthday.

Which is just what Wags & Walks will do on the afternoon of Sunday, Jan. 27.

The animal-loving organization, which actively seeks to match rescue hounds with loving homes, is marking the first year of its West LA adoption center with a buoyant bash.

One that will include, you got it, chances to meet, fall for, and possibly adopt a whiskery new pumpkin of the most poochful sort.

A photo truck and giveaways are also on the roster, so once you've nuzzled several pups, and said a warm "hey" to others, and you've downed a rootbeer float (thanks to Margo's Bark Soda Co.), best snap a pic and see if you score something cool.

It's all free to join, this Fido-cheerful fest.

And, good to know?

Actually, scratch that. What's absolutely great to know? Over 1,100 pups were "saved last year," says Wags & Walk. That's beyond nice, and definitely worth a party.

So be there, from noon to 4 o'clock, to meet dogs, hobnob with animal aficionados, and enjoy a root beer float, all on a warm-ish January Sunday.

Good idea, though, beforehand? Do take a second to RSVP.
