High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Sylmar With Collision

SYLMAR, Calif. -- A high-speed pursuit of a stolen car began in Santa Clarita on Tuesday and ended in a hit-and-run collision that left at least one person injured and short foot chase in Sylmar, where the driver surrendered to police.

Helicopters and patrol cars from multiple agencies pursued a burgundy Chevrolet Tahoe through Valencia on the Golden State (5) Freeway and then east along the Foothill (210) Freeway during rush hour at speeds estimated at 70 to 80 mph, ABC7 reported.

The Tahoe exited the freeway and crashed into a car on Polk Street, just west of San Fernando Road.

The driver ran into the backyard of a home and then to the street, where police ordered him to the ground and arrested him.

The injured person was taken to a hospital, according to d'Lisa Davies of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
