Angelenos will want to check out Malibu and Zuma beaches for the best surf, while Orange County surfers will want to ride swells at Huntington and Newport Beaches.

Overhead swells are expected at most beaches.

For those non-surfers, Southland residents can expect cool temperatures and nighttime showers this weekend as the frontal system makes its way south from the Bay Area.

Rain is expected to start falling on Ventura County around 7 p.m., while most parts of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties should see showers a couple hours later, but the rain won't last long.

"Not a lot of rain with this forecast," said NBC4 Weathercaster Byron Miranda. "I think we'll pick up somewhere up to a tenth of an inch. … Some areas may pick up more than that."

The showers are expected to end around midnight.

Cooler air and clouds will also drop temperatures around Southern California into the low-to-mid 60s.

Coastal, downtown and inland Orange County residents will see highs in the low-to-mid 60s with nights in the low-to-mid 50s.

The valleys will be slightly warmer throughout with daytime highs in the upper-60s, while nights will be somewhat colder, with temps in the upper-40s.

Inland Empire residents can expect highs in the low 70s with lows in the upper-40s.
