Not a Trick: Hollywood's Magic Castle Catches Fire

120 firefighters knock down blaze at historic club

Hollywood's Magic Castle -- a private club known for secret passageways, elusive events and the furthering of all things magic -- caught fire on Monday.

In addition to the fire, which damaged the attic and walls, sprinklers were triggered throughout the building creating water damage, said Matt Spence of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

At least 120 firefighters were sent to the castle, located at 7001 W. Franklin Ave., said Spence.

The Halloween structure fire appears to be a predestined disaster -- this week, the venue is hosting a series of shows dubbed "Inferno at the Castle."

"For the last week in October, The Magic Castle will be ON FIRE with the spirit of Halloween!" wrote organizer's on the castle's website.

No injuries were reported, and the "stubborn fire," which started at about 12:35 p.m., was knocked down in just over an hour, said Spence. The fire appears accidental in nature, Spence said.

Halloween is one of the venue's busiest weekends, according to the club's Facebook page.

"Again, we are officially closed tonight as we regroup and assess damage. We will have updates regarding our re-opening as soon as we know more. Thank you for your support and understanding," according to a post on the Magic Castle's Facebook wall. "This community is a tight-knit one and we certainly feel the love coming in from around the world."
