House Fire in the Hollywood Hills

Two firefighters were injured.

Two firefighters were injured battling a house fire in the Hollywood Hills Friday night.

The home in the 73-hundred block of Woodrow Wilson Drive is reportedly owned by actor Jack Nicholson, who moved out of the home in 1975.  The current occupant, Bill Tynan, told firefighters he woke up to the smell of smoke but managed to escape.

Firefighters say that since the house was on the side of a hill, obtaining access to the home to fight the fire was difficult.

"This is a large house on a precarious slope," said Matt Spence of the LA Fire Department.  "It is difficult, and access is tough because of small, windy roads in that area."

At one point, firefighters were concerned the flames may spread to nearby brush, but they were able to prevent that from happening.

"The fire was confined to the house. It did not extend into the brush," said Assistant Chief Scott Mottram of the LA Fire Department.

The two injured firefighters reportedly were treated for heat exhaustion.
