Fiery Big Rig Crash Closes Grapevine

Northbound commuters forced to take alternate route north

GRAPEVINE, Calif. -- A big rig carrying chemicals caught fire and shutdown Interstate 5 along the Grapevine Tuesday night.

The California Highway Patrol shut both south and northbound lanes down to commuters at 6:43 p.m.   At 8:30 p.m. CHP reopened southbound lanes.  Northbound lanes will remain shut for most of the night as workers clean up and everyone waits for toxic fumes to dissipate.

The CHP did not say what chemical the truck was carrying of if anyone was injured.
