Fans are in a frenzy over the long awaited debut of the film The Hunger Games, lining up for hours for a chance to be in the first audience when the film opened at midnight Friday.
"I think half the fun is waiting and bonding with other people who are fans of the books, and just talking about them. And then seeing the movie first thing when it opens that day," says movie fan, Allen Kwok
The highly anticipated film is set in a futuristic post-war America and pits teenagers against each other in televised gladiator style battles.
It's based on the best selling young adult adventure novels, and promises to be even more successful than the Twilight series because it appeals to a broader audience with it's focus on adventure over romance.
Movie ticket sales are through the roof.
The Hunger Games is expected to make as much as $150 million during it's opening weekend. The highest ever debut for a non-sequel film.
"This is something we've not seen before, especially for a spring release. We have over three thousand sold out show times across the country. It is 96 percent of our ticket sales on Fandando, and it is selling 10 tickets per second," according to Melinda Petrow, Fandango Spokesperson.
