Immigrants Detained in “Barbaric” LA Basement, ACLU Says

The American Civil Liberties Union says dozens of detained immigrants are housed in "barbaric" conditions in a squalid basement below a downtown Los Angeles federal building.

The American Civil Liberties Union, which has scheduled a morning news conference (10 a.m), says up to 200 detainees are at times crammed into a series of temporary holding rooms in the basement.

The ACLU filed a lawsuit late yesterday against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The allegations center on an area known as B-18, designed as a temporary holding area for immigrants arrested by ICE agents. The ACLU says the conditions are "barbaric and unconscionable."
