Federal investigators have revealed new findings in their probe of the plane crash that killed millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett. They say it appears that Fossett died in the initial crash. Wreckage of Fossett's small plane was discovered near Mammoth Lakes late last year.
Investigators say the emergency release handle on the plane was still locked in place, and most of the fuselage was consumed by fire.
A camper also told investigators that he believes he saw Fossett's plane on the same day the adventurer went missing. The unidentified man said headwinds were so strong that day, that the plane appeared to be standing still. Fossett was reported missing on September 3, 2007. He was declared legally dead in February 2008.
