Kansas Man Fined for Laguna Beach Bird Beating

A man arrested for killing a rare Heermann's gull in Laguna Beach after he claimed the bird tried to steal his wife's ice cream has been fined $275.  Although Dragan Djuric, 50, of Kansas, claimed the birds were attacking, witnesses said the ice cream actually fell on the ground, and that's what attracted the birds.

The witnesses said Djuric beat the bird to death as it went for the ice cream that had fallen.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Djuric " "violated the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act" and imposed the fine, according to the Orange County Register.
