Runner Christian Burke crossed his own personal finish line on Monday to the cheers and applause of old friends and new fans.
"Going strong. These guy's are setting a good pace for me," according to Christian Burke, Long Distance Beach Runner.
Local news from across Southern California
Christian challenged himself to set a record, help a cause, and shine a light.
"I'm pretty excited. You know, my feet are a disaster, but they don't feel any pain right now, so I'm pretty good. From my waist down I kind of hurt a bit. I'm pretty excited to be done, so I'm sand-baggin' right now, pardon the pun." according to Christian Burke, Long Distance Beach Runner. "We broke the record at 3 A.M., and this is all just money in the bank."
And money in the bank literally. All those footsteps in the sand are there for a reason.
Christian made this a charity run for the Hermosa Beach School Education Foundation in the hopes of saving a few teachers when budget cuts come around next spring.
"I'm happy to be here doing this for them. I hope everyone takes a moment to look at these kids and realize how valuable they are," according to Christian Burke, Long Distance Beach Runner.
But he was seldom alone except for a few of the wee-hours, and Christian said that support made all the difference.
"The funny part is the beginning. We all went out together to do a bunch, and there's so much energy in the air, I just kind of took off, and got away from everybody a little bit. Lap five or six I kind of had to slow it down and get everyone back in the mix," according to Christian Burke, Long Distance Beach Runner.
The run was completed at noon, but the chance to help out is far from over.
