Landlocked: Sheriff's Boat Stuck Under OC Freeway

"The bridge is good, but I don't know about the boat," says California Highway Patrol Officer Gabe Montoya

It wasn't exactly smooth sailing Wednesday for a Los Angeles County sheriff's boat that got stuck under a freeway overpass in Orange.

The boat, which was hitched to the back of a truck, got stuck about 11:20 a.m. on southbound City Drive, beneath the Garden Grove (22) Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Gabe Montoya.

Authorities managed to dislodge the vessel about 12:35 p.m., he said.

"The bridge is good, but I don't know about the boat," Montoya said with a chuckle. "But the bridge is fine. It's a little tougher than a boat."

The boat only sustained a few scratch marks on the roof, the Orange County Register reported.

The accident blocked one lane, "But there wasn't a whole lot of impact on traffic," aside from rubberneckers, Montoya said.

It's rare for a vehicle to get stuck under the overpass, Hill said.
