LAPD Seeks Help in Finding Missing Canadian Tourist

Elisa Lam was last seen six days ago at The Cecil Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles

A Canadian tourist has vanished in Los Angeles. Her parents knew something was wrong when calls to them suddenly stopped.

"Just recently she was traveling to Southern California on her own," said Lt. Walter Teague of the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division. "She's 21 years old and she ended up here at The Cecil Hotel."

Elisa Lam was traveling alone to San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco, according to detectives. When it came time for her to check out of the Cecil Hotel in Downtown LA on Jan. 31, no one heard from her.

An employee was the last to see Lam, who, until she disappeared, called home daily, said detectives.

"It’s been . . . six days now," said Teague. "There’s been no communication at all. That’s worried us and worried the family, so we’re proceeding with the investigation now."

Lam’s parents have not commented publicly, leaving it up to the LAPD to make one last request.

"Right now, all we’re really asking is to put her picture out there and see if we can generate any leads from the public," said Teague. "It would be a big help."
