More than 2,500 "survival kits" have been handed out  to LA's homeless over the last few days as part of the Giving Spirit's effort to help the needy, organizers said.

Volunteers loaded up cars with duffle bags filled with basic amenities such as toilet paper, deodorant and sunscreen.

Giving Spirit organizers say the goal is to highlight the need the help those often overlooked.

"Just bringing these people who are disenfranchised, lost, forgotten, overlooked on a daily basis back into society which is a conversation and grace it's just as valuable as what's in those kits," said the founder of the organization, Tom Bagamane.

The giving spirit runs solely on donations. The cost of helping 4,000 people is roughly $250,000, organizers said.
