LAX Travelers — More Traffic Than Usual Expected as Lanes Close

The United Airlines East Aircraft Maintenance Hangar project will prompt lane closures and people who frequent the area should expect delays.

Utility work for a United Airlines maintenance hangar will force the cloture of two lanes in each direction of Century Boulevard near Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday.

The United Airlines East Aircraft Maintenance Hangar project work will prompt the lane closures on Century between Airport Boulevard and Avion Drive, east of LAX, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the airport.

A maximum of two eastbound and two westbound lanes will be closed, and at least two lanes will remain open in each direction. People heading to or from the airport are advised to allow for extra time during the work.

The maintenance hangar project is billed by LAX as a "state-of-the- art facility" that will house 23 aircraft, with technology allowing plane engines to be powered down during maintenance, reducing emissions.

Also this weekend, repaving work in Westchester could complicate people's travel.

From 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, northbound Sepulveda Boulevard will be closed for repaving between Lincoln Boulevard and Westchester Parkway.

On Sunday, Westchester Parkway will be closed for repaving between Sepulveda Boulevard and Sepulveda Westway. LAX officials said they do not expect major delays from that project.
