Woman Found Incompetent to Stand Trial in Target Stabbings

A Northern California woman accused of stabbing four people at a Target store in West Hollywood several months ago was Wednesday found mentally incompetent to stand trial.

Layla Rosette Trawick, 34, was ordered to be sent to Patton State Hospital after two psychiatrists agreed that she was incompetent, according to Jane Robison of the District Attorney's Office.

Trawick was charged May 5 with four counts of attempted murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the May 3 attacks.

Trawick is accused of randomly stabbing shoppers with knives she had brought with her to the Target store in the 7100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard.

The Antioch woman -- who, according to family members, has a history of mental health issues and lost custody of her son -- was arrested by an off-duty sheriff's deputy and security personnel who responded to screams in the store.

She was carrying two bloody knives when she was arrested, according to sheriff's deputies.
