A workshop scheduled for next weekend will teach Hemet residents how to recycle organic waste, such as spoiled fruit and yard trimmings, into compost that will enrich their soil.
The backyard-composting workshop is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hemet Public Library, 300 E. Latham Ave.
Composting is a way to divert waste from landfills and turn it into a soil conditioner, said Diane Christensen, a program administrator for the Riverside County Waste Management Department.
Low-cost bins will be available to residents at the workshop.
