A Long Beach police officer fatally shot a man early Sunday who authorities said pointed a gun at someone in a liquor store parking lot.

The officer responded to a call at 12:21 a.m. in the area of Artesia Boulevard and Butler Avenue, said Long Beach police Sgt. David Marander.

"An officer confronted the suspect. An officer involved shooting occurred and the suspect was shot by the officer," Marander said.

The officer was uninjured, he said.
