A 19-year-old father was killed and another man was in critical condition after four people were shot in Long Beach Monday night, police and family members said.
The shooting took place around 8:40 p.m in the 1200 block of East 17th Street in Long Beach, said Lt. Paul Baum of Long Beach Police Department. Mourners, including family members, gathered at the site Tuesday morning.
The slain victim was identified as 19-year-old Delhaun Jackson, according to family members. Jackson's mother said he had a 1-year-old son and was looking forward to celebrating Father's Day.
"Wrong place at the wrong time," said Stanley Guy, the victim's grandfather. "It's senseless. It happens all over, but when it hits home it hurts."

Police said Jackson was standing on 17th Street with a group of men when he and three others were shot.
On Monday night, a mother was waiting at the scene of the shooting, worried that her son was one of the four victims.
"My son don't gang-bang," Sherrell Weatherton said through tears. "He hung around the wrong crowd but this is not the way I wanted God to humble him at all. It's very sad."
Witnesses said they heard four or five gunshots.
"I was with my dog when I saw all the police here and that was scary," Irma Jimenez said.
No arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. Detectives were asking any possible witnesses to come forward and contact the police regarding the shooting.
