Suspect Killed in Second Deputy-Involved Shooting in Walnut Park Area

A 31-year-old man was shot and killed by authorities after an earlier shooting left a deputy injured in Walnut Park Saturday morning.

Officials said a transit service deputy was attempting to stop a pedestrian around 4 a.m. near Pacific Boulevard and Brand Avenue when shots were fired. The deputy was shot in the arm, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The deputy fired back but the suspect was able to run away.

Authorities shut down streets in the area as they searched for the gunman. About three hours into the search, authorities found the suspect hiding in a dumpster behind a business in the 2700 block of Grand Avenue.

The suspect allegedly pulled out a gun again when another deputy-involved shooting happened. The alleged gunman, whose name was not being released, was killed at the scene.

The deputy shot in the earlier incident suffered non-life threatening injuries.
