Los Angeles' city council voted Wednesday to seek millions of dollars in funding for 10 park projects in the city.

The $8.45 million would be provided through Measure A, the Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Measure, which was approved by Los Angeles County voters in 2016.

Council members will consider authorizing the Department of Recreation and Parks to submit 10 grant applications.

Here's how the money would be used.

  • $440,000 for Hope and Peace Park, at 843 S. Bonnie Brae St. in the Westlake area of Council District 1. The funding would be used for the demolition of an existing play area to install new play areas and safety surfacing, landscaping and amenities, as well as pathway improvements.
  • $1.32 million for Strathern Park West, at 12541 Saticoy St. in the Sun Valley area of Council District 2. The funding would be used to create a new off-leash dog park, a new parking lot, a new basketball court and more.

Measure A was approved by 75% of L.A. County voters in November 2016, generating about $96.8 million per year through a countywide parcel tax. The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District administers the funds and provides grant awards to cities, agencies and nonprofits.
